Prophet Ibrahim
"Ibrahim was certainly a model of faith, obedient to Allah and upright, and was not an idolater but grateful to him for his favours .So he chose him and guided him to the path that is straight, and gave what is good in the world, and in the Hereafter he will be among the righteous and the good."
Prophet Ibrahim
was sent to the people of Babylon who were ruled by Namrud the son of Kan’an.
These people had forgotten God and were worshipping idols and readily accepted
these idols as their gods. For a long time the people were sunk in darkness.
Even Prophet Ibrahim’s uncle Azar was worshipping, plus selling and making
idols. When Ibrahim was old enough his uncle made him sell these idols,
but Prophet Ibrahim was created by the Almighty Allah to guide the misguided,
and had not the least doubt about Allah’s Lordship, so when selling these
idols Prophet Ibrahim used to say, “O People! Come front and buy the idols
which are lifeless and which can neither benefit nor harm anybody.”
IN THE IDOL HOUSE
“By Allah! I will devise a plan against their idols when they are away. He broke all the idols into pieces, except the bigger one among them so that perhaps people would refer to it.” (21:57-58)
Prophet Ibrahim decided to go to the idol house and break down their idols so that they may come to their senses and to help him prove that their gods were useless, he left the biggest idol standing. When the people came back to pray to their gods they found them all broken except the biggest one. The people said, “Who did this to our gods?” One said, “I heard a boy named Ibrahim did it.” They brought Prophet Ibrahim to trial before a court and asked whether he had done such a thing to their gods. Prophet Ibrahim replied in a good manner: “This has all been done by the bigger idol. Ask him, if he speak?”
Prophet Ibrahim proved that they were fools because their idols couldn’t talk eat and move. They knew that they were wrong but still declared Prophet Ibrahim to be guilty and shouted, “Burn him alive!” They said, “Burn him to ashes if you want to help your gods.” But of course Allah’s will was above theirs. Allah wanted to prove to these foolish people that his power is the mightiest so he saved Prophet Ibrahim from their fire. “We said to the fire, be cool and peaceful with Abraham.” (21:68-69) But the question that must be asked is, who will save them from Allah’s fire?
Prophet Ibrahim remained safe from any harm and continued to preach the oneness of Allah and was not afraid of their threats because he knew quite well that no power on Earth cold harm him save his Lord, Almighty Allah.
